Did you know that in the early 20th century the Netherlands nearly became part of Germany? In 1902 queen Wilhelmina became critically ill with typhus and if she had died, there would have been no heir. Wilhelmina was queen of the Netherlands until 1948 when she ceded the throne to her daughter Juliana (1909-2004).
