Did you know that according to an old myth the dome of Meppel’s church tower was on fire but by the time the fire brigade arrived they found out it was a large swarm of mosquitos. Eversince the people of Meppel have been nicknamed ‘Meppeler Muggen’ (Mosquitos from Meppel).
